TUMERIC VEGAN GUMMIES

Turmeric is a well-known spice that has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine to treat a wide range of health conditions. In recent years, scientific research has provided strong evidence for the mental health benefits of turmeric. Here are some of the ways that turmeric can support mental health:

  1. Reduces inflammation: Chronic inflammation in the body is associated with a higher risk of depression and other mood disorders. Turmeric contains a potent anti-inflammatory compound called curcumin, which has been shown to reduce inflammation and improve brain function.

  2. Boosts brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF): BDNF is a protein that helps to promote the growth and survival of brain cells. Low levels of BDNF have been linked to depression and other mental health conditions. Curcumin in turmeric has been shown to increase BDNF levels, which can help to protect against brain disorders.

  3. Improves mood: Curcumin in turmeric has been found to have antidepressant effects, possibly by increasing levels of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine in the brain. This can help to alleviate symptoms of depression and improve mood.

  4. Enhances cognitive function: Turmeric has been found to have a positive effect on cognitive function and memory, possibly due to its ability to reduce inflammation and boost BDNF levels. This can help to improve overall brain health and prevent age-related cognitive decline.

Incorporating turmeric into your diet through recipes like our vegan turmeric gummies can be a delicious and easy way to support your mental health.

We created a recipe for vegan turmeric gummies that are not only delicious but also packed with the health benefits of turmeric, including its positive effects on mental health:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup pureed fresh turmeric root (or 2 tablespoons turmeric powder)

  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup

  • 1/4 cup coconut milk

  • 1/4 cup agar agar flakes

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together the pureed turmeric root (or turmeric powder), maple syrup, coconut milk, agar agar flakes, vanilla extract, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and sea salt.

  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the agar agar flakes have dissolved and the mixture has thickened and comes to a gentle boil.

  3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer the mixture for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld and the mixture to thicken even more.

  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the water.

  5. Pour the mixture into silicone gummy molds or a lightly greased shallow dish and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to an hour, or until the mixture has set and is firm.

  6. Remove the gummies from the molds or cut them into bite-sized pieces and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Enjoy your delicious and healthy vegan turmeric sweet gummies, which are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that can help support mental health and well-being.
